Microsoft data protection Manager is a good backup solution in the system regiments page(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399021.aspx) they haven't mentions what are the SQL features required for installation of DPM 2010.
DPM Only Support Microsoft SQL 2008 SP01 SQL Server 64 bit or 32 Bit versions. (DPM Doesn't support SQL 2008 R2)
